Cache Box today. (Actually last week, writing this a week after) Didn't mentally prepare as well as I did last week before the meet got canceled. The goal was to state qualify. Talked to Ethan before the race and he said if I would lead the first 800 then he would let me sit on him for the rest of the race. Sounded good to me. I did pretty good on the first 800 and I think we were just 3 seconds fast. I did my best to stay on his back but I fell off the 7th lap. At that point I just really tightened up in my shoulders and it slowed me down a ton. I finished with a 9:52 which I am not happy with at all. I'm really disappointed how that turned out. To make matters worse, Ethan ran a 9:37, so 1 second off state qualifying. I wish I could've been closer to him so I could have pushed him to qualify. My bad. Cooled down.
I half heartedly said I was going to do the 800. To be honest I haven't raced an 800 since freshman year. My coach suggested that if I wanted to run it in any invitationals for the rest of the year, then I'd better get a time. Warmed up a bit then lined up. I wasn't quite sure what to expect. When the gun went off everybody from my outside immediately crashed on the inside and put me right in the back. The first 300 of the race was fast and I was still about 8 people from the front. I told myself that I would make my move with 400 left. I honestly wasn't in the race at that point. That's how far back I was from the leader. When I kicked I just started sprinting as hard as I could. I didn't know how much I had in me but I just started passing people. With about 180 meters left in the race I caught the leader. At that point I was hurting so bad. I wanted to win though so I just kept going. I held the lead and I thought I had the win. With about 10 meters left I was so exhausted and when I went to take another step I don't think my brain registered that movement. I stumbled and almost ate it. Connor Compton and Jack Mcullough both slipped right past me just right before the finish line. I was furious. I had the win but just lost it. I ended up running a 2:01 which I guess is pretty good for doing that after a 3200 and doing it for my first time since freshman year.
Not much to say about the mile. I was exhausted and I ended up getting a side ache in my cool down after the 800. It didn't go away so I wasn't expecting much. I ran a terrible 4:54. Go me. My side was just killing me so that didn't help. If that wasn't enough racing for the day, all my coaches have been asking me to do the 4 by 4, so I did. I don't know my exact split but from what I heard it was the 2nd fastest on that team. Cooled down with Ethan, Claire, Jacob Malone from Box Elder. Not sure how I feel about today. Kind of disappointed in my performance.
